Beginning Thursday night, traffic will transition from Old Burlington Mills Road to the newly constructed Burlington Mills Road.
What to Expect – Updated Traffic Pattern
To support a smoother, safer flow of travel in this area, several adjustments will go into effect:
- The left-turn lane from Old Burlington Mills Road onto Main Street will close as part of the new configuration.
- The traffic signal at Old Burlington Mills Road will operate in flashing-red mode or be replaced with a stop sign for right turns. This intersection will operate as Right-in/Right-out only to promote safer and more predictable movement.
- Once the new intersection opens, left turns from Main Street onto Burlington Mills Road—and from Burlington Mills Road onto Main Street—will no longer be available.
- The two existing left-turn lanes from Main Street to Burlington Mills Road will be blocked and eventually removed as the new roadway design takes shape.
- Traffic will shift north onto the Burlington Mills Road Realignment at the new intersection, where both left and right turns will be available for drivers on Main Street and the realigned roadway.
- A new connector from the realignment will tie into the existing Burlington Mills Road near Barrington Hall Drive, maintaining convenient access to Barrington Hall Drive, Little One’s Academy, the Rolesville Veterinary Hospital, and nearby homes.
Drivers are encouraged to use surrounding intersections to complete turning movements safely. Please follow posted signs, travel with care, and allow a little extra time while crews finalize work and adjust signal timing.
About the Burlington Mills Road Realignment
The Burlington Mills Road Realignment is an important element of Rolesville’s Main Street Project. By aligning Burlington Mills Road with New Burlington Mills Road, the Town is replacing two offset intersections with one modern, signalized intersection designed to:
- Create more efficient and intuitive traffic flow
- Reduce conflict points and enhance safety for everyone on the road
- Add new sidewalks, crosswalks, and bike lanes to support walking, biking, and other modes of travel
- Improve neighborhood access and support future development along the Main Street corridor
These enhancements are part of Rolesville’s ongoing commitment to building a safer, more connected, and welcoming community for all.
