The Town of Rolesville continues to work to complete work at the intersection of Main & Young Streets.
See below for highlights:
- The road-closed signage on West Young Street has been moved closer to the Main and Young intersection to increase visibility on West Young Street from Granite Falls Boulevard to Scarboro Street.
- Storm drainage installation on North Main Street and Williams Street is underway. Work is expected to take a couple of weeks.
- Work to finish storm drainage near the Wallbrook development is underway. Once that is complete, the last mast arm will be installed for the new traffic signal layout between Jonesville Road and Burlington Mills Road.
- We’ve collaborated with the City of Raleigh Utilities to refine a plan for the waterline work. We’ve reached an agreement with them on a plan that would reduce the time of the work by three to four weeks by focusing on the most important items to get the intersection open. The change order process is nearly complete. The final step is NCDOT concurrence for the waterline.
- According to NCDEQ, no additional cleanup of the contaminated soil is needed. The storm drainage work can move forward as planned through the remediated area. However, further cleanup might still be necessary depending on what Enbridge/Dominion requires for their gas line relocation through the same area. This has to be installed before the new storm drain system, and they will be on-site in the coming days.
Once the work at Main & Young Streets is complete, the intersection will have new stormwater drainage to prevent flooding, new water lines to better serve residents and business owners, and new sidewalks and pedestrian walkways to keep everyone safe. This project is a $23 million investment in the future of Rolesville’s downtown, creating a safer, walkable, more successful, and more attractive Main Street for residents, businesses, and visitors.
