Work inside the Main Street and Young Street intersection closure is in full swing. Fred Smith Company crews have removed the old asphalt as well as over 2500 cubic yards of dirt, lowering the intersection. Crews will continue to install storm drainage both inside and outside the limits of the closure to handle the storm water runoff within this newly lowered intersection is creating. Dominion Energy crews continue working to relocate a natural gas line through the intersection to accommodate for the storm drainage installation.
This planned closure is set to conclude the week of September 16th. Until then, there will likely be intermittent lane closures in the areas surrounding the Main and Young intersection. These lane closures will be between 9 AM and 4 PM Monday – Friday and will be used as needed.
